Mazda MX-5 Gets 177kW Boost

The Mazda MX-5 has received a beef boost and this is the concept currently on show at the Auto Mobil International Auto Show in Leipzig, Germany.

This Mazda MX-5 prototype has been dubbed the Yusho meaning victory in Japanese. So what makes it special? Well, the modified 2.0-litre MZR engine speaks for itself. Maybe it’s the fact that the engine makes use of forged Cosworth pistons and rods, a supercharger and intercooler, revised fuel injectors and has a beefy exhaust system and a remapped ECU.

The truth lies in the numbers. This beastly MX-5 produces 177kW at 6800rpm and cruises to a top speed of 240km/h on 17” alloys. The suspension incorporates Bilstein shock absorbers and Eibar springs that are stiffer and shorter improving handling and drive quality. Recaro sport seats provide a ample throne. It is unclear whether the Yusho will make it into production. Keep them fingers crossed.
