David Coulthard catches golf ball at 190km/h

This is a crazy car stunt orchestrated by F1 and DTM driver David Coulthard who reportedly managed to ‘catch’ a flying golf ball in a 425kW Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster at a blistering speed of 190km/h.

The stunt took place at an ex-RAF airfield in Surrey as part of a viral film for Mercedes-Benz UK. Professional golfer Jake Shepherd drove a golf ball down the runway from a patch of artificial grass, with Coulthard mowing after it in a SLS AMG Roadster. The aim: To catch the golf ball in the car, a difficult task indeed.

Surprisingly, after only the second attempt, Coulthard managed to match the speed of the golf ball to catch it in the cockpit 275m further down the runway. Coulthard had this to say, “This is definitely one of the most unusual things I've ever been asked to do with a car! But Jake was great to work with and the performance of the SLS AMG Roadster made driving to catch a mid-air golf ball even more fun.”

Mercedes-Benz UK is requesting that the event be recorded in the Guinness World Book of Records as “the longest golf shot caught in a moving car”.

As you might expect, Coulthard was wearing a helmet to prevent being hit by the incoming golf ball.
