ML 63 AMG leads Mercedes-Benz M-Class into South Africa

A couple of days ago the arrival of the Mercedes Benz ML 63 AMG in South Africa was merely a pipe dream. Now it has arrived and brought with it an entourage of models that comprise the new M-Class from Mercedes-Benz.

As we’d expect from Mercedes, the new models in the M-Class are packed with bling and offer luxury, performance, improved fuel efficiency and some styling, all neatly wrapped into a nice SUV present to take home. The new M-Class offers five new models to choose from with the ML 63 AMG leading the wolf pack.

First in the line-up is the ML 250 BlueTEC 4MATIC fitted with a four cylinder diesel engine that is capable of 150kW and a maximum torque figure and 500Nm. Fuel consumption for this model sits pretty at 6.5l/100km and has a CO2 figure of 165g/km. 100km/h is achieved in 9 seconds with a top speed of 210km/h.

The ML 350 BlueTEC 4MATIC is a bit more performance orientated and is fitted with a revamped 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine that kicks out 190kW and 620Nm of torque. Fuel consumption is at just 6.8l/100km. The ML 350 BlueTEC 4MATIC reaches 100km/h in 7.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 224km/h.

The ML 350 also comes in a BlueEFFICIENCY variant named the ML 350 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY and offers a V6 petrol engine producing 225kW of power and 370Nm of torque with a combined fuel consumption figure of 8.5l/100km. The top speed for this variant is a healthy 235km/h.

Next in the range is the ML 500 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY  that boasts V8 BlueDIRECT petrol engine under the hood and produces 300kW of power and 600Nm of torque. CO2 emission is 287g/km.

Last but not least, the growling ML 63 AMG rolls into town with a V8 engine offering 385kW of power and 700Nm of torque. The top speed is an electronically limited 250km/h but can be increased to 280km/h if the AMG Driver’s Package is purchased. 100km/h is achieved in a fast 4.8 seconds and fuel consumption is on the up side of 11.8l/100km.

As mentioned previously, there is a wide range of luxury features available in the M-Class. In the ML 63 AMG safety features include 9 airbags, Brake Assist (BAS) or the optional BAS PLUS, ATTENTION ASSIST, PRE-SAFE and tyre Electronic Stability Program. Active assistance systems Active Lane Keeping Assist and Active Blind Spot Assist are available as additional equipment options in the Driving Assistance Package. On the inside leather seats are standard across the range with a spaciously luxurious cabin perfect for those long holiday drives.
