Mercedes-Benz AMG reveals CLS 63 Shooting Brake

Mercedes-Benz has revealed the AMG CLS 63 Shooting Brake, the ultimate wagon, the super wagon. This is by no means your ordinary station wagon, the CLS 63 Shooting Brake means serious business and it can carry a hell of a lot too.

The AMG CLS 63 is fitted with a powerful 5.5-litre twin-turbo V8 that pumps out a hefty 415kW and 800Nm as seen in the Edition 1 model. The standard model is capable of 386kW and 700Nm, not to shabby either. Using an AMG Speedshift MCT seven-speed gearbox, power is transferred to the rear wheels and the Edition 1 is capable of 100km/h in only 4.3 seconds, 0.1 seconds faster than the standard model.

Fuel consumption for the AMG CLS 63 Shooting Brake is rated at 10.1-litres/100km thanks to direct injection, piezo injectors and idle-stop. The CLS 63 Shooting Brake employs AMG Ride Control sports suspension with air suspension for the rear and steel struts for the front. Electronic damping allows for automatic adjustments according to road conditions and the driver is able to manually adjust the suspension with three modes namely ‘Comfort’, ‘Sport’ and ‘Sport Plus’.

Perforated and ventilated disc brakes are fitted as standard and AMG ceramic high- performance composite braking system is available as an option. The CLS 63 rides on titanium-grey 19-inch alloy wheels.

AMG sports seats covered in Nappa Leather don the interior along with an AMG instrument cluster with a race timer and AMG start-up screen. As you’d expect, the interior is luxurious and perfectly suited for those long hauls. The luggage compartment can accommodate up to 1 550 litres of luggage with the rear seats folded down and the rear floor is finished in fine American cherry wood, just to top it off.

South Africans can expect the AMG CLS 63 to become available some time in the first quarter of 2013.
