Imagine driving from Johannesburg to Cape Town and back on a single tank of fuel. Impossible? Well, not really. An American couple have broken the record for the longest distance traveled on a single tank of diesel, totaling 2456 km.
John and Helen Taylor managed the feat by driving between
Houston, Texas, and Sterling, Virginia without ever filling up their VW Passat 2.0 TDI. Using ultra-low sulphur diesel and equating to 2.8 litres /100km, the
couple managed to do the trip over 3 days driving for an average of 14 hours
per day. That means that their average speed must have been in the region of 60
km/h.
The couple are not new
to the world of economy driving and provide workshops on fuel efficient driving
techniques and have conquered more than 90 economy and driving related world
records.
