New 2012 Lexus LX 570 set to Impress

Lexus has re-introduced its large luxury SUV, the LX 570 in South Africa and it now comes with design and technical upgrades that will make you take a closer look, if you are in the market for a large luxury SUV of course.

Let me get the bad news out the way and share the fact that the LX 570 sells for R1 178 600. That said, what are you getting for your money? Well to start off with, you get a large luxury SUV that incorporates Lexus’ Spindle Grille design that’s flanked with bi-xenon headlights with Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) and a new bumper design. The rear LED tail lights have been re-designed too. The LX 570 also rides on newly designed split 5-twin spoke 20-inch alloys with graphite finish.

The LX 570 is not short on space either and has seating for eight passengers with three rows of seats. The boot alone can accommodate 1276 litres, so it’s spacious. The front seats are fully adjustable with a heating function while the second row of seats feature reclining functionality with power slide for extra comfort. That’s perfect for watching DVD’s or playing games as two 7-inch LCD screens are mounted behind the front headrests.

The centre console features a full-colour, multi-information TFT touch display. Navigation, Multi Terrain Select, ventilation and the 19 speaker Mark Levinson sound system are all controlled on this screen.

On the safety front, the LX 570 is well equipped and features 10 airbags as standard which include driver and front passenger knee airbags, front and second-row seat mounted airbags and side curtain airbags. All eight seating positions feature three-point seat belts. Active safety features include a Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Brake Assist (BA), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), off road ready active Traction Control (A-TRAC), Hill-Start Assist (HAC) and Crawl Control.

The Lexus LX 570 is fitted with a powerful 32-valve, 5.7-litre V8 petrol engine that produces 270kW and 530Nm of torque. Power is transferred to all four wheels via a 6-speed sequential-shift, electronically-controlled automatic gearbox (ECT) with paddle shift. The top speed for the LX 570 is electronically limited to 210km/h with an urban fuel consumption figure of 14.8-litres/100km. CO2 emissions are rated at 350g/km.

The 4WD system incorporates a Torsen limited slip centre differential while power transfer is achieved by the simple push of a button on the centre console. The Multi-Terrain Select (MTS) system offers different settings depending on the road conditions and drivers can select from either rock, rock and dirt, mogul loose rock and sand and mud to suit specific driving requirements.

Oh and there is a tilt/slide moonroof just in case you need extra light in the cabin. With all the tech in this beast, the LX 570 is not to be scoffed at and will most likely offer a very pleasing driving experience both on and off the road, but it comes at a price, of course.

What do you think of the new Lexus LX 570?
