You might have heard whisperings that the Lexus LS is coming
to South Africa, well you right, it is, and it’s expected at the end of 2012. Model
and powertrain details remain pretty sketchy at this point but we can expect to
see the LS 460, the LS 600hL Hybrid and hopefully the LS 460 F SPORT in full
Lexus bravado come end of the year.
At first glance, nothing attracts more attention to the LS
than its gaping spindle grille that dominates the front-end. Be careful, it
might jump out at you. Lexus reckons that more than 3 000 detail changes
have taken place which adds up to a pretty awesome looking package form Lexus.
New headlights and vertical L-shaped fog lights add to its dynamic styling and
furthermore LED lights can be had for all the lights, including the front, rear
and fog lights.
Steering adjustments and increased body rigidity with the help of adaptive variable suspension all help the LS achieve better handling and ride quality. The LS also features Drive Mode Select with five driving modes to choose from including Eco, Comfort, Normal, Sport and Sport+ modes.
On the inside a large 12.3-inch LCD multi-display screen
offers optimal display functions. The LS also incorporates the all new,
customisable Lexus Climate Concierge which automatically adjusts the cabin temperature,
climate control seats and the heated steering wheel.
On the safety front, the Lexus LS offers an Advanced Pre-Collision Safety System (APCS). The system is able to detect both stationary and moving pedestrians and the vehicle is brought to a stop when a collision is about to take place. The new Lane-Keep Assist system (LKA) helps the driver remain in the intended lane. The LS range also incorporates a new radar Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) that detects vehicles while reversing out form a parking space.
All in all the new Lexus LS seems to be quite impressive
both on the outside and on the inside but now we just have to wait for further
details regarding engine specs and more importantly, prices. For now though, the
pictures will have to do.
