Nissan SA is confident that the Infiniti brand will excel in
the South African market with ‘Infiniti Centres’ being planned for Gauteng,
Kwa-Zulu Natal and the Western Cape.
Infiniti G37
Options for the South African market include the Infiniti G37 which will be available as a coupe or cabriolet. Although the sedan is available overseas, it won’t be available in South Africa. The Infiniti G37 is powered by 3.7-litre V6 engine mated with a seven-speed automatic transmission gearbox 235kW at 7000 rpm. The coupe version will race to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds reaching a top speed of 250 km/h.Infiniti M
The Infiniti M sedan takes on the BMW 5-Series and the
Mercedes Benz E-Class in the executive class. Engine specs have not been
announced yet but it could likely offer a 235kW V6 engine, as in the G37, or a
3-litre V6 diesel engine kicking out 175kW. A hybrid option will also be on
offer with a 3.5-litre engine mating with an electric motor to offer an output
of 268kW. All the engines will be coupled with a seven-speed automatic gearbox
with the petrol model hitting 100km/h in 6.2 seconds.
Infiniti EX
The Infiniti EX compact crossover will take on the BMW X3.
The Infiniti EX will run on the G37’s 3.7-litre V6 engine with power delivered
to all four wheels. The nifty Infiniti EX reaches a 100km/h in just 6.4 seconds
with a top speed of 240 km/h.
Infinity FX
The Infinity FX will tackle the large crossover market and
it’s unsure at this point what engine will be used in South Africa but it could
very well be the 290kW 5-litre V8. Entry level models will most likely feature
the 175 kW diesel and 235kW V6 engines.
Time will tell whether Infiniti will flourish in the South
African market, but at least consumers will have additional choice when it
comes to luxury cars.
