Nissan Navara Titanium Special Version in South Africa

Nissan Navara fans will be pleased to know that Nissan are producing only 200 units of the Navara Titanium that is due for release in September 2012. The new model comes with a host of styling and specification upgrades compared to the current SE model that will make the Navara Titanium stand out on the road.

The upgrades include a satin-smoked-finish front grille, rear step, bumper, side mirror covers, door handles and titanium-coloured wheels. The Navara Titanium also comes with all-terrain tyres, a tow bar, front bull bar, tonneau cover, embossed carpets and a Ttianium branded key ring. Three colours are available for the Navara Titanium including white, black and silver.

 

The Titanium will be available as a 4x2 or a 4x4. The 4x4 version will be powered by a 2.5-litre common-rail diesel engine that puts out 128kW and 403Nm of torque with a fuel consumption figure of 9.0-litres/100km.

Nissan South Africa to increase production

Nissan South Africa is gearing up for a capacity increase at its Rosslyn-based plant in Pretoria. The announcement coincided with a visit from the chief operating officer of Nissan Motor Company Limited (NML), Toshiyuki Shiga.

The increase in capacity will create in the region of 800 jobs at the Rosslyn plant including operators, team leaders, supervisors and engineers. A further 4000 jobs will be created in the wider automotive industry. The Rosslyn plant will produce a potential 100 000 vehicles annually by 2016 which will include an all-new bakkie which will be produced alongside the current Nissan NP200, NP300 Hardbody, the Nissan Livina and the Renault Sandero under the Renault-Nissan Alliance. No details of the ‘new’ bakkie have been released yet.

 Nissan South Africa managing director Mike Whitfield said that in today’s climate of economic uncertainty and low-cost competitiveness, the support from Nissan Motor Limited in Japan for local operations is a huge boost. “It is a vote of confidence in Nissan South Africa both as a manufacturing facility and as a driver of brand sales on the African continent and beyond” said Whitfield.

Whitfield also said that in addition to the new 1-tonne bakkie, Nissan will also be producing a new B-segment passenger vehicle in the near future. Discussions to rollout the Nissan LEAF in South Africa are also underway after its successful launch in Europe, USA and Japan.

Updated Nissan Murano for 2012

The Nissan Murano, which was first introduced in South Africa in 2004, has undergone some changes for 2012.

On the exterior, the 2012 Nissan Murano comes with a new grille, bumpers and LED tail lights. The Murano also sports a new 18” alloy wheel design. On the inside, the Murano is updated with new infotainment and connectivity enhancements.

In the engine department, the Nissan Murano is powered by a 3.5 litre V6 petrol engine capable of 191kW at 6000rpm and is mated with a updated Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) with a six-speed semi automatic gear shift mode. The Murano guzzles fuel at a rate of 10.9 litres/100km.

Sporty leather seats will keep you comfy while you fiddle on the new colour-coded centre console with white backlighting. A double-panel sunroof with retractable sun shades and tinted glass have also been included in the new Nissan Murano. Reversing and side-view parking cameras are also fitted. Now available as standard is Nissan’s Premium Connect Infotainment system with 40GB satellite navigation system and 9.3GB Music Server controlled with a touch screen. The new system also offers Bluetooth connectivity, USB and iPod ports and DVD functionality. An 11-speaker BOSE audio system will keep you company while you drive around in style.

The price for the Nissan Murano 3.5 is a cool R545 600 and comes with a 5-year/90 000km service plan and a 3-year/100 000km warranty.  

Infiniti coming to SA

Tweet In June this year, South Africans will have additional choice when buying luxury vehicles with Nissan’s luxury brand, Infiniti, setting up shop in South Africa. Infiniti will come loaded with a full range of sedans, coupes and crossovers.

Nissan SA is confident that the Infiniti brand will excel in the South African market with ‘Infiniti Centres’ being planned for Gauteng, Kwa-Zulu Natal and the Western Cape.

Infiniti G37

Options for the South African market include the Infiniti G37 which will be available as a coupe or cabriolet. Although the sedan is available overseas, it won’t be available in South Africa. The Infiniti G37 is powered by 3.7-litre V6 engine mated with a seven-speed automatic transmission gearbox 235kW at 7000 rpm. The coupe version will race to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds reaching a top speed of 250 km/h.

Infiniti M

The Infiniti M sedan takes on the BMW 5-Series and the Mercedes Benz E-Class in the executive class. Engine specs have not been announced yet but it could likely offer a 235kW V6 engine, as in the G37, or a 3-litre V6 diesel engine kicking out 175kW. A hybrid option will also be on offer with a 3.5-litre engine mating with an electric motor to offer an output of 268kW. All the engines will be coupled with a seven-speed automatic gearbox with the petrol model hitting 100km/h in 6.2 seconds.

Infiniti EX

The Infiniti EX compact crossover will take on the BMW X3. The Infiniti EX will run on the G37’s 3.7-litre V6 engine with power delivered to all four wheels. The nifty Infiniti EX reaches a 100km/h in just 6.4 seconds with a top speed of 240 km/h.

Infinity FX

The Infinity FX will tackle the large crossover market and it’s unsure at this point what engine will be used in South Africa but it could very well be the 290kW 5-litre V8. Entry level models will most likely feature the 175 kW diesel and 235kW V6 engines.

Time will tell whether Infiniti will flourish in the South African market, but at least consumers will have additional choice when it comes to luxury cars.
