The greener, meaner Mercedes Benz SLK 55 AMG

Merc SLK fans and sports car lovers in general should be thrilled about the arrival of the new two-seater Mercedes Benz SLK 55 AMG which, according to AMG is an “exclusive combination of advanced technologies."

This is true when considering that the SLK 55 AMG incorporates F1 racing technology with the engine’s ability to run on four of its eight cylinders along with stationary fuel shut-off and 200 bar fuel injection pressure, the highest for any petrol engine. This all culminates in a fuel efficient sports car that averages 8.4 litres / 100km with a CO2 emissions rating of 195g/km.

The 5.5 litre V8 engine pumps out an impressive 310kW of power while clocking 0-100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds making the SLK 55 AMG the most powerful production SLK to date. More than this, the SLK 55 AMG is regarded as a ‘top performer’ in terms of fuel efficiency versus power output. Power is transferred via a seven-speed speed shift transmission with full automatic or manual sequential changes.

The price to drive this classy piece of machinery starts at R975 000.
