Jaguar XF: Pretoria to Durban and back on single tank of fuel

Two Jaguar 2.2-litre diesel XF’s departed from Pretoria on Sunday, 1 July 2012 with the aim to return from Durban on a single tank of fuel. Both Jaguar XF’s completed 1 265.8km over two days with fuel consumption figures of 4.9 and 5.1-litres/100km respectively, impressive.

Economy run expert Roger Rouessart and IGNITION TV presenter Marius Roberts were behind the wheel while Richard Carstens from Motorsport South Africa made sure that the lads didn’t sneak fuel along the way. The XF driven by Marius Roberts used 64.461 litres while Roger Rouessart used 62.351 litres to complete the two-day run.

“Traditionally a Johannesburg to Cape Town run is attempted but we wanted to do something different to demonstrate the efficiency of our cars. Pretoria to Durban and back is far more challenging in that one has to contend with the numerous toll gate stops and high traffic volumes; however, the cars were up to the challenge and completed the task with little fuss.” explains David Barns, Jaguar Brand Manager.

The Jaguar 2.2-litre XF is capable of 140kW and 450Nm of torque and can accelerate to 100km/h in 8.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 225km/h.

If you want to see exactly what happened, the effort will be broadcast on IGNITION at the following times:

  • Saturday 21 July, Buyers Guide: 4am, 10 am, 4pm, 10pm

  • Sunday 22 July, Buyers Guide: 6am, 12pm, 6pm

Jaguar XF to test fuel efficiency

Jaguar South Africa will put its 2.2-litre diesel XF to the test on Sunday 1 July 2012 when it will depart from the Union Buildings in Pretoria en route to Durban and back, all on a single tank of fuel. Will the Jaguar XF be successful? Time will tell.

The total distance to be covered is 1 242 km. Economy run expert Roger Rouessart will be behind the wheel of the XF under the supervision of Richard Carstens from Motorsport South Africa. A second Jaguar XF will also be making the run with a ‘ordinary’ driver behind the wheel to demonstrate differing fuel efficient driving techniques. This ‘ordinary’ driver will be Ignition TV presenter Marius Roberts.Jaguar’s efforts will be broadcast sometime in July.

The Jaguar XF 2.2-litre diesel is capable of delivering 140kW and 450Nm of torque and can accelerate to 100km/h in 8.5 seconds and reach a top speed 225km/h. Fuel consumption for the XF is rated at 5-litres/100km which should give it a range of 1 280km on a single tank of fuel, just enough to complete the journey, or so they hope.
