Idols Winner gets Ford Fiesta

South African Idol’s winner, Khaya Mthethwa, has received a new Ford Fiesta 1.6 Titanium after clinching the idol’s title at the Mosaïek Teatro in Fairlands yesterday. The 25-year old Durbanite received the most public votes beating 23-year old Melissa from Port Elizabeth.

The five-door Ford Fiesta 1.6 Titanium features a 1.6-litre engine, leather interior, automatic air conditioning, cruise control, radio/CD/MP3 with six speakers, Bluetooth and Voice Control, Aux audio connector and USB port.

“Our involvement with Idols has been a fantastic opportunity for us to engage with like-minded fans. Khaya will no doubt be a great ambassador for the brand and we are excited to see him driving off in a Fiesta Titanium,” said Ford Marketing Manager, Gavin Golightly.

New Stylish Ford Fiesta coming to South Africa

Meet the new Ford Fiesta that will be available in South Africa in 2013. Having sold more than 15 million units worldwide since 1976, the Ford Fiesta is a popular car that has earned its respect and the new Fiesta will keep that flame alive.

This time however, the new Ford Fiesta will be fitted with the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine, the 2012 Engine of the Year, as well as the voice activated in-car connevctivity system called SYNC that allows owners to voice-activate phone calls and music selection from devices connected via Bluetooth or USB. The striking front-end of the new Fiesta features a trapezoidal grille accented by ‘laser-cut’ headlamps and a power-dome bonnet design.

 “Fiesta has been one of the world’s best-loved small cars across five decades, and the sporty appeal of the last generation Fiesta inspired real passion among global compact car customers, contributing to its status as the world’s most successful small car,” said Martin Smith, Ford of Europe executive design director. “We had to keep that vital part of Fiesta’s make-up – but we also wanted to give it a more sophisticated look.”

Ford Fiesta wins Total Economy Run

The Total Economy Run took place this past weekend and the Ford Fiesta Ambiente TDCi manual was named the most fuel efficient car in South Africa. The Fiesta was driven by Stuart Greig and Wynand Gerber and the pair managed to achieve an impressive 4.485-litres/100km to take the win in the L Class.

The Ford Fiesta Ambiente is fitted with a 1560cc Duratorq TDCi engine that produces 66kW at 4000rpm and develops 200Nm of torque at only 1500rpm. 0-100km/h is achieved in 11.9 seconds with a top speed of 175km/h.

However, the winning didn’t stop there for Ford as Charl Wilken and Greg Godrich dominated the C Class in a 5-door Ford Fiesta 1.6 Titanium with a fuel consumption of 6.013-litres/100km. Gordon Noble and Graham Bate came in at second place in their Ford Focus 1.6 Trend using 6.151-litres/100km.

In the B Class, Harry Young and Manfred Hertz came second in their Ford Figo 1.4 consuming fuel at an average of 6.328-litres/100km.

“We’re extremely proud of the team for demonstrating Ford’s efficient technologies and securing some fantastic results this past weekend,” said Ford Marketing Manager, Gavin Golightly.  “With fuel efficiency an increasingly important consideration among consumers this event provided a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate Ford’s competitiveness in this area.”

Ford Transit and Tourneo Custom coming to SA

Ford will enter the mini bus and large panel van segment in South Africa with the all-new Transit Custom and Tourneo Custom which will be made available in the first quarter of 2013.

Both models feature bold exterior design features and luxury driver-orientated cockpits and will be available as both short and long wheelbase versions. The Tourneo Custom offers seating for 8 passengers along with a highly versatile seating configuration with up to 30 different arrangements depending how you choose to stow and fold the seats.

Ford’s 2.2-litre Duratorq TDCi diesel engine will be used for both models. The transit Custom and Tourneo Custom will be built at the Ford Otosan Plant in Kocaeli, Turkey. Keep your eyes peeled for more details closer to launch.

Ford Focus ST coming to South Africa soon

The all-new Ford Focus ST will arrive in South Africa in the fourth quarter of 2012 according to Ford South Africa and will bring a whole lot of performance with it. The Ford Focus ST will be fitted with Ford’s 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine that will produce 184kW and 350Nm of torque.

The efficiency of Ford’s EcoBoost engine is made possible by high pressure direct injection, low-inertia turbocharging and Twin-independent Variable Cam Timing (Ti-VCT) along with a revised exhaust system and air intake.

Ford fans have plenty to look forward to when the Focus ST becomes available later in the year so keep your ears and eyes open for more details closer to the final hour.

Ford looks to boost EcoBoost Engines

Ford aims to considerably increase the use of its EcoBoost engine in the near future, planning to more than triple its production of vehicles equipped with the fuel efficient engine.

Ford seeks to increase the number to 480 000 by 2015 from the 141 000 produced in 2011. Ford expects approximately 800 000 EcoBoost engines to be put into use in 2015 in Europe. The new EcoBoost engine will be made available in South Africa in 2013 and will power the new Ford EcoSport.

The 2.0 litre version of the engine will be seen in the Ford Focus ST which debuts in South Africa later in 2012. The EcoBoost engine is good news for consumers who seek performance and excellent fuel and CO2 efficiency found in the EcoBoost engine.

Ford EcoSport coming to SA in 2013

South African Ford fans who are hoping to get their hands on the Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV) called the Ford EcoSport only have to wait until 2013 when it reaches the South African car market.

The concept version of the Ford EcoSport was unveiled earlier this year at the New Delhi Auto Show with the production version coming to fruition at the Beijing Motor Show recently. The overall look and feel of the EcoSport is pleasing, taking on a solid yet sleek appearance. Ford’s all-new EcoBoost engine will be humming under the hood and comes in the form of a ample turbocharged 1,0-litre, three cylinder unit that produces 90kW and 170 N.m of torque. CO2 emissions are impressive for a vehicle in this class with a figure of only 140g/km.

The Ford EcoSport will feature various technologies including Ford Sync driver connect system with voice control, keyless entry with remote start-up, dual front and curtain airbags, ABS and ESP.
