Ever wondered if cars could get any smaller? Meet the Volpe, quite possibly the smallest car ever made. This electric vehicle (EV) was created by the Italian stallion Romano Artioli, ex boss of the Bugatti and Lotus brands. The name Volpe, in Italian means ‘fox’ and is an acronym for Veicoli Originali Leggeri Privi Emissioni which means Original Zero-Emission Light Vehicle.

Based on the original Volpe that was launched in 2005, the new Volpe is only 1m wide and 1.5m tall, making it capable of going where no car has gone before, which is pretty much anywhere.

But don’t expect too much in terms of performance or hauling the family to the beach for your summer vacation, the Volpe is a bit small and slow for that. The Volpe is only capable of reaching 50 km/h and has an electric range of 60 km. The Volpe is also able to run on petrol or natural gas and has a solar panel. The Volpe is therefore perfect for someone living in a congested city that requires a functional and economical means of transport.

The Volpe is classified as a road-legal quadricycle which means that when it goes on sale in Europe in 2013, people as young as 16 will be able to drive it with a motorcycle license. Do you like the Volpe?
