New Renault Clio coming to SA in 2013

Renault recently unveiled its new and improved fourth-generation Renault Clio that is expected to arrive in South Africa in the first quarter of 2013. From the outside, it’s obvious that Renault has been hard at work on creating a Clio model with a sharper, more robust and sporty feel. And from what I can tell, they have succeeded.

The five-door Clio, with hidden rear door handles, is moving with the times, particularly in terms of engine size. The Renault Clio makes use of the Renault’s first ever three-cylinder 899cc turbocharged Energy TCe 90 petrol engine that whips up 67kW at 5 000rpm with a maximum torque figure of 135Nm at 2 500rpm. What’s more impressive is that the fuel consumption is only rated at 4.3-litres/100km with a CO2 rating of 99g/km.

If you looking for a diesel option, it comes in the form of a dCi 90 unit that pushes out 67kW a 4 000rpm with an ample torque figure of 220Nm available from 1 750rpm. Fuel consumption is even lower for the diesel model at only 3.2-litres/100km and a CO2 emissions figure of only 83g/km. There is also a 1.2-litre TCe engine currently in development that will put out in the region of 90kW and 190Nm of torque.

Apart from its fresh look and efficient performance figures, there is much to look forward to in the new Renault Clio, the only downside is that we have to wait until 2013 to see it. Renault Scénic Upgrades

Renault has updated its long-running Scénic and Grand Scénic for 2012 with increased performance, better efficiency and improved equipment.

Most of the changes have been made to the front-end with re-designed headlights, bonnet, bumper and A-pillar.  For the five-seat Scénic, sleeker multi-element headlights, revised grille and chromed accents with gloss black surrounds encase the LED daytime running lights. The seven-seat Grand Scénic is a tad more elegant with wider horizontal lines on the bumper and grille with chrome detailing and new LED daytime driving lights.

Humming in the engine room is an all-new 1.6 dCi Energy turbodiesel engine that Renault claims is the world’s most powerful 1.6 diesel engine kicking out 96kW with 320Nm available at 1750rpm. The Grand Scenic Bose Edition runs on a 2.0 litre dCi Auto mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and kicks out 110kW with 360Nm of torque at 2000rpm. The 83kW 1.6 litre 16 valve petrol engine is still available in the five-seat Scénic Expression.

Even the base-line Renault Scénic Expression features a Carminat TomTom Live integrated navigation system, Blue-tooth enabled audio system, automatic headlights and windscreen wipers as well as front and rear parking sensors.

The Scénic Dynamique includes dual zone climate control, heated front seats and a hands free ignition key card. The Scénic Bose comes with a Bose sound system, a rear view camera and xenon headlights. The hill-hold function comes standard across the range.

Renault Scénic Prices
Scénic 1.6 Expression - R259 900
Grand Scénic 1.6 dCi Dynamique - R324 900
Grand Scénic 2.0 dCi Bose - R379 900

Renault Launches RS Trophy 265

Renault South Africa presents the all-guts, all-new limited edition Renault RS Trophy 265, adding to the already notable Renault Mégane Sport range. Offering drivers unprecedented front-wheel drive performance, superb handling, freakishly good looks and race-inspired driving dynamics, the RS Trophy 265 is a car worth its salt.

Powering this beautiful specimen is a reworked version of the impressive 2.0-litre, 16-valve engine that has been tweaked to produce 195kW at 5 500rpm. A torque boost has also been made to 360Nm between 3000 and 5000rpm, made possible by a new air intake design and a higher boost pressure of 2.5 bar. The limited edition RS trophy 265 is the first Renault to run on the new engine but will be made available across the Renault Mégane RS Range, including the Sport and Cup models, in the near future.

The Renault RS Trophy 265 will race to 100km/h in a measly 6 seconds while powering on to a top speed of 254km/h, pretty impressive. Visually, the RS Trophy 265 is recognised by its ‘Red Line’ detailing and sports a new rear lip spoiler to give it that racy punch. The RS Trophy 265 rides on 19” gloss black STEEV wheels with red piping, RS valve caps and a numbered plaque. LED daytime running lights are incorporated into the F1-style front blade with Xenon headlights fitted as standard.

On the inside, leather-clad Recaro bucket seats will make you feel like a champion race car driver, while eye-catching stitching on the upholstery, steering wheel and gear lever gaiter will impress your friends. An innovative RS monitor is to be found in the central display and provides a range of performance related information while you tend to your duties on the road or racetrack, whichever you prefer.

Safety is always of importance and the Renault RS Trophy 265 is well equipped with front and side airbags, ABS brakes, ESP stability control and ASR traction control. How much can you expect to pay for a beast of this calibre?  Well, fork out R409 900 and it’s yours, all yours, enjoy.

Renault extends Fluence Range

Renault South Africa has extended its Fluence sedan range with the all new, budget friendly Fluence Authentique. Four models are currently available in the Fluence range with a mix of 1.6 and 2.0 litre engines.

The main focus of the Renault Fluence range since its launch in March 2011 has been value for money, something cash strapped South Africans can appreciate. The new Fluence is powered by the same 1.6 litre engine used in the Expression and Dynamique models and the four cylinder unit produces 81kW of power at 6 000 rpm with a peak torque figure of 156Nm at 4 400 r/min, making it a ample city cruiser. A five-speed manual transmission comes standard.

The Authentique gobbles fuel at a rate of 6.5 litres / 100km with a CO2 rating of 159g / km. One of the main advantages of the Authentique, as with all the models in the Fluence range, is the safety features. The Authentique is equipped with ABS brakes with emergency brake assist (EBA) and electronic brake force distribution (EBD). Six airbags come standard with Isofix child seat mounting points on the outer rear seats, perfect for doing those weekly school runs. The Authentique also comes with air conditioning and electric windows.

If you are looking for value for money, you might want to consider the Renault Authentique, at R190 000 it might just be what the doctor ordered.

What are thoughts on the new Renault Authentique?

Renault Twingo RS coming to SA

The all new Renault Twingo RS is expected to be available to the South African public in the third quarter of 2012. Renault fans can expect to get quite a kick from this cute mini racer.

Inspired by Renault’s association with F1 racing, the Twingo features a four light arrangement along with black detailing on the rear spoiler and rear bumper with a diffuser and aerodynamic extensions over the rear wheel arch, giving the Twingo RS that sporty race look.

The interior is sporty too with yellow stitching on the steering wheel and seats, white detailing for the rev-counter border, steering wheel and air conditioning controls.

The Renault Twingo RS also comes with cruise control, speed limiter, Bluetooth, 16” alloy rims and a Renault Sport exhaust system with chrome tail pipes. If that’s not enough, you may opt for the Cup chassis with a design exterior package, larger wheels and a Renault Sport telemetry system, for people who want to experience more of a racing vibe.

The Twingo RS comes fitted with a 1.6 litre engine that puts out 98 kW at 6750 rpm and 160 Nm of torque at 4400 rpm and is backed up by powerful front and rear disc brakes.
The Twingo’s top speed is 201 km/h with a CO2 emission of only 150g/km. Fuel consumption is low too sitting at 6.5 litres / 100 km.
