24 Hour Shift for Jaguar Land Rover

Jaguar Land Rover’s manufacturing facility at Halewood, UK, is now working full tilt, around the clock, to meet the global demand for the ever popular Range Rover Evoque. Since the Evoque’s launch in 2011, nearly 88 000 vehicles were sold in more than 170 markets. That number is indicative of the Range Rover Evoque’s worldwide success and popularity and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon.

In March this year, Jaguar Land Rover launched a recruitment campaign to hire 1000 new production managers to coincide with the 24 hour production schedule. Now, the 4 500 strong workforce is plugging away all day and night to meet the increasing demand for the Evoque.

The Halewood manufacturing facility is also home to the updated Land Rover Freelander 2 which is built alongside the Evoque.  Des Thurlby, HR Director at JLR said: “With 4,500 employees, JLR Halewood has trebled its workforce in just three years – and the size of the workforce is now the highest it has been for 20 years. As well as creating new jobs, our on-going global success means we continue to have a positive economic impact in the North West and throughout the UK supply chain.”

The Range Rover Evoque has gained critical acclaim achieving more than 120 global awards. Crowned Top Gear Magazine Car of the Year, World Design Car of the Year and North American Truck of the Year amongst others, the Range Rover Evoque continues to receive plaudits for its concept car looks, dynamic driving performance, class leading off-road skills and excellent cost of ownership.

All-New Range Rover heading for South Africa

You may be pleased to know that the all-new Range Rover is coming to South Africa. As you’d expect, the new Range Rover aims to please even the most discerning buyer and with the looks and latest technology by its side, it should do very well.

The new fourth generation Range Rover is a leap beyond its predecessors and this can be largely attributed to the design and build of this luxury SUV, which still captures the innovative spirit and iconic design of the first model which was launched more than 40 years ago. This is all thanks to the fact that the new Range Rover is the first SUV with a revolutionary lightweight, all-aluminium monocoque body structure which has resulted in a significant weight loss of 420kg, making it 39% lighter than previous models.

This ultimately improves fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions as well as the handling and performance of the Range Rover and in the words of Land Rover, makes it “the most capable and most luxurious Land Rover yet”.

John Edwards, Land Rover Global Brand Director, said: “The new Range Rover preserves the essential, unique character of the vehicle – that special blend of luxury, performance and unmatched all-terrain capability.  However, its clean sheet design and revolutionary lightweight construction have enabled us to transform the experience for luxury vehicle customers, with a step change in comfort, refinement and handling.”

The new Range Rover will also feature ground breaking innovation such as the next-generation version of Land Rover’s Terrain Response® system, which analyses the current driving conditions and automatically selects the most suitable vehicle settings for the terrain.

The interior, as you’d expect is spacious and offers superb luxury using clean, elegant surfaces which make use of the finest leather and veneers. The new Range Rover will feature both refined V8 petrol engines as well as TDV6 and TDV8 diesel engine options.

The new Range Rover will be produced in a new, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at Solihull, UK and us South Africans can expect the arrival of the Range Rover come January 2013.

Record Profit for Land Rover Jaguar

Jaguar Land Rover must be smiling from ear to year as the Tata Motors owned brands record their highest profit ever. Pre-tax profits grew from R14.3 billion last year to a welcome R25.5 billion.

The drastic rise in profit was due to a 76% increase in sales in China which amounted to 50 994 as well as the worldwide popularity of the Range Rover Evoque. On top of this, growth has also taken place in the European market. German sales increased with 38.1% while Russian sales rocketed with 22.3 percent. In France sales hiked by 57.4% and Spain saw an increase of 18.1% in sales. This is all surprising considering the ongoing euro crisis.

Consumer confidence in the two brands could very well be behind the success and there seems to be a strong demand. Jaguar Land Rover is considering expanding on its three plants in the UK and are currently building a new engine factory in Wolverhampton. Tata Motors recorded a 136% increase in net profit.
