Hyundai i30 to Show Three-Door in Paris

The 2012 Paris Motor Show is days away and automakers are readying themselves for the big showdown come end of September. Korean automaker, Hyundai is planning on showcasing its new Hyundai i30 three-door hatch at the show, which is a good looking car to say the least.

With a choice of four engines and a 6-speed manual and automatic transmission on offer and style to boot, the i30 three-door is set to be a popular choice for customers. The 1.6-litre diesel engine is the highlight in the range producing 94kW with a CO2emissions figure of only 97g/km.

The i30 three-door displays Hyundai’s ‘Fluidic Sculpture’ design with its hexagonal grille with a new black finished grille insert and central bar. The i30 gets a revised bumper in the front and rear as well as fog lamp clusters with LED Daytime Running Lights. The rear fog lights are horizontally positioned for extra appeal. 16-inch alloy wheels provide stability on the road. It is not known when the i30 three door will make its way to South Africa, but if it does, it should do pretty well considering its priced correctly.

This is one of the funniest car reviews I have seen in a while. Journalist Rory Reid was in the process of reviewing the Hyundai i30 in London, when the Toronto Batman appeared and took over the proceedings in what turns out to be a sight for sore eyes.

Bold Hyundai i30 Hatchback in South Africa

Hyundai has launched its new i30 hatchback in South Africa this week and is available in two petrol options, the 1.6 GLS and the 1.8 GLS. The new i30 has received a major overhaul compared to the outgoing model and takes on Hyundai’s ‘fluidic sculpture’ design philosophy.

The 1.6 variant is capable of 95kW at 6 300rpm with peak torque sitting at 157Nm at 4 850rpm. This model is available with either manual or automatic transmission and fuel consumption is at 6.4-litres/100km for the manual and 6.8-litres/100km for the automatic.

The 1.8 GLS is only available with manual transmission and puts out 110kW at 6 500rpm with 178Nm of torque at 4 700rpm. Fuel consumption for the 1.8 is rated at 6.5-litres/100km.

Standard features include dual-zone air-conditioning, electric side mirrors, automatic locking doors, cruise control, keyless entry, central locking and front and rear parking radar.

The new Hyundai i30 is set to do well in South Africa and buyers can expect to pay R229 000 for the Hyundai i30 1.6 GLS manual, R247 900 for the Hyundai i30 1.6 GLS automatic and R249 900 for the Hyundai i30 1.8 GLS.

There’s no better way to put the durability of a brand to the ultimate test than to leave it in the hands of our wild brothers and sisters, the baboons. Hyundai UK recently put the new Hyundai i30, which will reach South Africa in July, to this very test at Knowsley Safari Park in Merseyside.

The Hyundai i30 became a baboon’s paradise for 10 hours so that designers could see how the model held up to the onslaught of the troop. The baboons managed to scrape the car, smearing their grubby paws all over, dislodging the rubber door seal and biting the steering wheel. All in all, the Hyundai i30 was in surprisingly good nick after hours of abuse. The idea was conceived after the famous footballer, Wayne Rooney, had his Audi bombarded by the same troop of baboons last year.

Now the question is, what’s worse, kids or baboons?
