Check your vehicle for free at Hi-Q

Now that summer is around the corner, many South Africans will be heading to destinations around the country and motorists should ensure that their vehicles are safe for travelling. Hi-Q centres around the country invite you to have a safety check performed on your car, free of charge.

Hi-Q Communications Manager Lize Hayward said “Tyres may look fine, but they will be markedly safer, perform better and be more fuel efficient if they are optimally balanced and correctly inflated. In fact, running a tyre just 20 per cent under-inflated could increase fuel consumption by as much as 10 per cent! That’s a lot to pay for just a little fresh air!”

Knowing how to maintain your tyres is important and will ensure that you get the most out of your tyres. Hayward explained that “an under-inflated tyre deflects more energy, increasing rolling resistance and making the vehicle less fuel efficient. It also reduces the tread life of the tyre, which means you may have to replace it sooner than necessary. Most importantly though, it is plain dangerous. If tyres are incorrectly inflated, the vehicle won’t accelerate, brake or steer properly. Safety devices like antilock braking systems may not function properly – and driving an under-inflated or overloaded tyre at high speeds, especially on a hot summer day, increases the risk of a dangerous blow-out” said Hayward.

Hi-Q will perform a 10-point safety check on the vehicle which includes checking all the tyres plus the spare for tread depth and pressure, front and rear shock absorbers, brake pads, discs, fluids, battery exhaust system and wiper blades.

“Should any of the vehicle checks highlight a worn or faulty part, the technician will recommend the correct course of action. Hi-Q stores are one-stop fitment and undercarriage parts stockists, so customers can get the problem sorted out and be back on the road again safely and quickly” explains Hayward.
