No more teasing, the new Mazda6 has finally been revealed to
the world and is currently on display at the Moscow Motor Show. The new Mazda6
with SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY and ‘Kodo’ design language is certainly something to
eye out but South Africans will have to wait until 2013 to drive the sporty sedan.
Two petrol engine options are on show in Moscow and include
the familiar SKYACTIV-G 2.0-litre that produces 110kW and 201Nm of torque and
the all-new SKYACTIV-G 2.5-litre engine that puts out 142kW and 256Nm of
torque.
The Mazda6 also ushers in the ‘i-ELOOP’ brake energy
regeneration system that charges a capacitor when the driver has his or her
foot off the accelerator as well as idle stop first introduced in the Mazda3 in
2009.
The third generation Mazda6 design was influenced by the Takeri concept car shown at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2011 and incorporates Mazda’s Kodo or ‘Soul of Motion’ design philosophy. Its bold design brings a distinct sporty flare to the sedan segment and for the first time sees LED headlights and halo light guides used in a Mazda passenger car. The ‘Soul Red’ body colour is also new and the Mazda6 rides on 19-inch alloys which make it even more assertive and appealing to the eye.
